Over 22k teachers in northern Nigeria fail competency exam

The irony is that a lot of primary school teachers in Kenya had issues with those things to begin with.  The "failures" are the ones that end up teaching.

The people giving (and presumably marking) the "competency exam" should themselves be tested.

My village public school has this. All guys who scored d minus are now teachers
